Council in Tisdale approves paving project, terminates land sale agreement with developer

A major roadway in Tisdale will be paved this summer.

Council has approved a pavement project for Heritage Rd., from Highway 3 to 94th Ave.

“It’s a fairly heavy traffic, heavy haul route for a lot of traffic,” Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Brad Hvidston told northeastNOW. “Council made the decision seeing as we got some additional funds from the [provincial] government through the Municipal Economic Enhancement Program (MEEP) that we would spend a little bit more on paving this year, and that was a project that was chosen.”

Hvidston said Heritage Rd. is currently a gravel surface that requires a lot of maintenance and dust control.

“There [are] really only the two roads that run north/south off the highway, one being Highway 35 and the other being Heritage Rd., so it’s a very busy road,” Hvidston said.

Council terminates land sale agreement with developer

Council also terminated a land purchase agreement with the development and investment company Carpere.

“They failed to meet a clause in the contract, so we’ve just decided not to provide an extension on that and just terminate the contract,” Hvidston explained.

He said the company had to have an approved building permit in by May 31 and that clause wasn’t met.

The 45-acre parcel of land is located along Highway 3, just southwest of Tisdale.

The company still has its plans for the site on their website.

Phase 1 of Carpere Technology Industrial Park, to be built on those 45 acres, was set to begin next year.
