Fraudulent survey

Prairie North Co-op cautioning public about fraudulent survey

Jul 26, 2020 | 9:00 AM

The Prairie North Co-op is making members aware of a fraudulent survey being circulated under the Co-op’s name.

Prairie North Marketing and Communications Manager Terri Larsen told northeastNOW the survey first started making the rounds in April.

The survey is in the Co-ops colours of red and white; however, Larsen said there are a few indicators that the survey is not legit.

“Our logo is not on it,” Larsen said. “We want the public to know that the Co-op would never administer a survey that would ask for your personal banking information or credit card information.”

Thankfully, there have been no reports of the phony survey surfacing in the Prairie North area. However, Larsen said they want the public to be aware that the fake surveys are out there.

“We do not want [the public] to click any buttons or even follow the links,” Larsen said. “That’s a good rule of thumb for anything like that. Unless you’re absolutely sure of the source, don’t click that.”

If you suspect that an email or a notice on your mobile phone might be suspicious, Larson said the Co-op’s Facebook page has posted links to the Government of Canada site, and the Better Business Bureau’s Scam Tracker site.

You can also call the Prairie North Co-op if you are in the area and spot one of these phony surveys, and they can forward the information to the appropriate channels.

Larsen said to be sure of where the content is originating from, and there are major red flags if the content doesn’t have a logo, or if it has grammar or spelling errors.
