‘They lost the warmth and heart of their homes’: Carrot River woman fundraising for Pasquia Place repairs

Aug 19, 2020 | 5:32 PM

It’s been over one month since a storm in July destroyed parts of Pasquia Place.

The assisted living facility in Carrot River saw a significant portion of its roof blew off, along with sustaining damage to its walls, bathrooms, and utilities.

Pasquia Place residents have been living away from the home since then, but one Carrot River local is attempting to help rebuild it.

Donna Nagus, the semi-retired owner of the Simply Creative arts shop in Carrot River, sells Tupperware containers on the side of her main gig. Starting Aug. 20 and going to Sept. 5, she’ll run a Tupperware fundraiser with 40 per cent of funds going towards Pasquia Place’s rebuild.

Nagus said the residents being removed from their home has hit close to hers.

“My mother and father in-law both live there… my mother adores that place,” Nagus told northeastNOW. “To know these people are missing out is heartbreaking. It’s more than walls, floors, and laundry rooms. They lost the warmth and heart of their homes, so I just want to give some of it back. They are put out of their home and may not get back there for months, not just days or weeks.”

There’s no set goal Nagus wants to achieve while fundraising. She noted that Pasquia Place needs a new washing machine and dryer, but the bathroom also needs to be refitted and the residents will need entertainment, including games and puzzles.

“It’s all needed,” she said.

A Tupperware catalog and info on how to purchase can be found online. Nagus said residents don’t have to purchase big or purchase at all, as she’ll still take donations that will go toward Pasquia Place.
