We continue to find out who’s names will be on ballots come the November Municipal Election.

In Tisdale, Kurt Johnson has announced his intention to run for a seat on town council this year.

“We’re losing some great councillors this year,” he said. “And it seems like the time to step up and see what we can do to help.”

Johnson was born in Melfort and has lived in Tisdale for 24 years, currently owning Twisted Metal Custom Collision in town. Aside from owning his own business, Johnson has also been involved in coaching minor sports, being a part of the Tisdale Wildlife Federation, and a leader in the Trout in School campaign.

As for topics that are top of mind for Johnson, he says he’s open to anything from council and the public. However, helping small businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic is one topic he’d like covered.

“With COVID hitting, it’s affected every small business everywhere,” Johnson told northeastNOW. “So, I’d like to see what can be done to help them out.”

Making progress on a proposed dog park in Tisdale is another item that Johnson would like to be involved in, saying he’s an animal lover and would like to see a safe place for people to walk their dogs in town.

“Overall, I just want to see the community and the northeast develop and expand,” he said. “And continue to be a great place to be.”

Johnson added he will be making a post on Facebook, but hasn’t thought too much about campaigning at the moment.

“I am going in a little bit green, as far as a big step,” he said. “But I just want to see what I can do.”

Voters head to the polls in Tisdale on Nov. 9.
