Tisdale Kinettes getting creative to raise funds amid pandemic

Nov 19, 2020 | 11:31 AM

In a time that is typically very busy, the Tisdale Kinettes have just one fundraiser on the go ahead of Christmas.

The group had to cancel their annual craft and trade show in November, which is one of their major fundraisers each year, due to public health restrictions.

Kinette member Jamie Bishop said they have decided to create baskets of cheer with help from local businesses.

“We want to make people more aware of what we have to offer locally and trying to encourage shopping locally,” Bishop said.

The Kinettes are currently canvassing local businesses for donations of things that can be found in their store. The businesses are asked to also provide their cards and information so people know where to find the goodies found within the baskets.

“It’s a way to raise money for our club to still run and supporting local businesses while we do that,” Bishop said.

The baskets will be assembled and will be available for purchase after Dec. 1. The baskets can also be gifted to others, according to Bishop.

“We will even go and drop them off with a note and uplift that person’s day,” Bishop said.

The baskets will range in prices with each basket containing different items and themes.

Members of the Tisdale Kinette club have had to think outside of their regular fundraisers with all of the public health regulations in place. The club is trying to come up with ideas on how to still have their regular Santa pictures ahead of Christmas as well as running different raffles to raise funds.

“The struggle of not being able to have the regular Telemiracle fundraisers, as a club we are definitely feeling the strain of that,” Bishop said.

The club has been able to go forward with a bottle drive in the fall which brought in $1,678 for Telemiracle. The group also hosted a fowl supper in November with proceeds going to the Kin Park revitalization.

All of the baskets sold will go towards the club which will help them to continue to “serve the community’s greatest need” through different projects and efforts.

Anyone wishing to donate items to the baskets of cheer are asked to do so by calling Bishop at 306-873-8753 to arrange for drop-off.
