Regardless of what happens this year as a result of COVID, Levi Rask at least has the certainty his basketball career will not end when he graduates this June from Birch Hills school.

The 17-year-old has agreed to play for Briercrest Bible College next season, located in Caronport.

“It means a lot; especially after my Grade 11 basketball season got cut short and now this season, it’s kind of unsure what’s gonna happen,” he said.

Rask said the cancellation of the season last year and the uncertainty surrounding this season, has been really hard on the entire team, having to missing out on a possible HOOPLA run two years in a row. Darren Rask played the role of coach and father the past four years, and expressed excitement about his son’s achievement.

“I’m obviously very proud of him. He’s worked very hard at his skills over the last number of years and it’s just a great opportunity for him to play,” he said.

Throughout his high school career, the 6-1 guard has always been one of the hardest working players on the team. (submitted photo)

Rask coached all three of his sons, and acknowledged it’s a bit tricky drawing the line between his two roles. Assistant Coach Craig Wicks described Rask as a quiet leader, who leads by example.

“He’s always been one of our top players. When he came in as a Grade 9 student, he was starting and doing very well against the Grade 12 boys,” he said.

In addition to playing basketball at Briercrest, Rask plans to pursue a business degree and is taking bible classes.
