Lake Country Co-op plans to add a liquor store in Nipawin this year.

The new Wine, Spirits, Beer location will be attached to the Nipawin Food Store.

Marketing and Community Relations Leader Keisha Mohr told northeastNOW the store will have many benefits for the area.

“It will add 15 new jobs in the community, it will create local long term economic growth and sustainability and will be a modern relevant product offering,” Mohr said.

The 5,400 square foot store will include a large walk-in beer cooler, a growler bar with local and provincially made products, a tasting bar with specialty products and many featured local products from Saskatchewan.

The plans for the store began about two years ago with the former Pineland Co-op and is set to open by mid-late summer of 2021 depending on weather.

The area for the liquor store is being prepped to get ground work underway.

“Those that drive by can see that some work is being done currently,” Mohr said.

The license for the store was acquired from a local vendor wishing to exit the market, according to Mohr.

“We are excited to provide this new retail experience for Nipawin customers and members,” she said.

Lake Country Co-op serves more than 50,000 members and has served northern Saskatchewan for more than 80 years.
