Federal and provincial governments invest in Porcupine Plain landfill project
The Saskatchewan and federal governments have announced new funding for the project to decommission and close the Porcupine Plain landfill site.
The federal investment is $60,251, and the provincial funding is $50,204.
“We’ve been expecting it [the funding] for some time,” Porcupine Plain Mayor Nick Wood said. “Today was actually the first time that we heard that we were approved. The cost of operating these facilities is incredible for small communities and large cities.”
Wood said the funding has to be used by 2023. Engineering firm, WSP is working on the project.
