Humboldt Broncos trademark logo, will now manage all merchandise sales

If you want to get some merchandise with the Humboldt Broncos logo on it, you’re now going to have to go through the team.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) club has officially trademarked their logo, and as of Tuesday, July 6, the team will be managing merchandise sales.

President Andre Kruger said the process has been going on for about two years now and they wanted to get a more streamlined approach for their merchandise sales.

“I think it’s a very good decision for the team and the board to be sort of in charge of their logo, their design,” he said. “And sort of know what type of product is going out there and what type of product is being sold to the public.”

Kruger added that they will still be working with local vendors for the products and tender contracts have gone out to local businesses for different products.

He said that while it doesn’t seem like there were businesses taking advantage of the logo, trademarking creates a bit more control for the team. Kruger said that businesses previously could find the logo online and make an item with it.

“The minute we’ve got that little “tm” on there, the trademark, and it’s ours,” Kruger said. “It becomes just a little bit more difficult.”

Kruger said they are mainly wanting businesses to ask first and the team will then decide what merchandise the business would be allowed to produce.
