Carrot River school committee raises $1.165 million

The Carrot River school fundraising committee has raised $1.165 million for enhancements to the new K-12 school in the community.

The enhancements include an applied arts shop, second gymnasium, fitness room and playground equipment.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the donations we’ve received,” Kevin Trew, North East School Division trustee representing Subdivision 2 said. “We have planned for some enhancements that looked achievable and attainable. We have kept that goal. The second gymnasium will double as a performing arts space with seating. We haven’t made a commitment for brand new equipment in the fitness facility, but that’s something we might look at in the future.”

The majority of the money raised is coming from the Novak Family Foundation, who has committed to donating $1 million.

The indoor amenities are expected to be funded using approximately 80 per cent of the $1.165 million, and the remaining money that has been raised will be used for playground equipment.

The committee currently has no scheduled fundraising events.

People can donate to the cause at the RM of Moose Range office and Carrot River town office, and the committee’s goal is to raise $2 million.

“We knew $2 million would cover everything,” Trew said.

The new school is expected to be completed in 2023.
