Mustangs fall to Stars

Mustangs offence dries up in loss to North Stars

Oct 31, 2021 | 1:03 PM

After a 7-1 drubbing of the Weyburn Red Wings on Friday, the offence seemed to dry up for the Melfort Mustangs on Saturday at the Northern Lights Palace.

Lucas Ochitwa scored the first goal for Melfort, but the Battlefords North Stars came back for a 3-1 win in the end. Ochitwa said they felt like things were buzzing early on.

“For the most part I think we did defend well,” he said “They’ve got a really hard forecheck and they break the zone really quick so it’s really hard to defend.”

Melfort outshot Battlefords in the end by a 35-26 margin but a solid night from Stars netminder Michael Harroch was a major difference in the contest.

Jake Southgate, Holden Doell, and Steven Kesslering all scored for the visiting North Stars.

“They like to shoot pretty hard, they’ve got some pretty fast guys up there,” Ochtiwa said.

Next up for Melfort will be the Flin Flon Bombers on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
