Mustangs return refreshed, ready for Ice Wolves

Nov 10, 2021 | 10:00 AM

The Melfort Mustangs are back in game action on Wednesday, Nov. 10 after a full week with no games.

Forward Seth McCulloch said after the month of October saw them play 14 games, the break came at a perfect time.

“It was good to go home and see the family, and kind of take your mind off hockey for a few days,” he said. “Now that we’re back, everybody is getting refocused and we’re definitely ready.”

The last time the Mustangs were in game action was a Nov. 3 win against the Flin Flon Bombers by a 7-3 score. The win felt like a statement win for the Mustangs who had lost four of their previous five heading into that contest. McCulloch said it was good for the team to get out of that rut before their time off.

Next up, a meeting with the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Wednesday, the third battle of the year between the Sherwood Divsion rivals. Melfort has won the previous two meetings by a combined 8-2 score and McCulloch said La Ronge is a physical team that plays an ‘in your face style’.

“I think if we match their physicality and just give it right back we’ll be just fine,” McCulloch said. “And we’ll put in a few goals too.”

McCulloch and the Mustangs are 11-6-0-1 on the season, good enough for fifth in the SJHL heading into Wednesday. La Ronge is 11th at 5-11-1-2.

Game time at the Northern Lights Palace on Wednesday is 7:30 p.m.
