Trojans annual pancake breakfast and toy toss set to return

Dec 7, 2021 | 5:25 PM

The Tisdale Trojans play three games this week, two of which are at home as their annual pancake breakfast and toy toss are returning after the pandemic break.

Saturday, Dec. 11, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. the Trojans team will be cooking and serving a pancake breakfast for members of the community.

The breakfast will cost $5 per plate, with all the proceeds going to a local charity.

Later that day the Trojans will then host their toy toss when they face the visiting Notre Dame Hounds.

Fans will need to bring in a toy to donate and will then receive a puck, which they will throw onto the ice during the intermission.

The three closets pucks to the centre ice faceoff dot will receive $100, $75 and $50 respectively.

All toys will be donated to the Salvation Army.

Tisdale Trojans Secretary Joanne Luck told northeastNOW the team is excited to get back to their festivities, as giving back to the community is something they love to do.

“We’re very excited to do it again because last year we didn’t do anything due to COVID restrictions,” Luck said. “It’s a great feeling. We have such great community support around here. We always have lots of toys donated and we also have a lot of people come out for our pancake breakfast, so it’s always exciting. The boys will be serving and cooking Saturday morning for the pancake breakfast, so you can talk to the boys individually while they’re here, as well.”

Luck also mentioned the importance the organization puts on these players volunteering, as it’s something they’ve always valued.

“We try to get the boys involved in as much community activity as we can. Some are helping with minor hockey and some can skate, so they’re getting out and about.”

Luck also said this weekend could provide a spark for this team, which has struggled to start the year, as it provides some celebration around the team and their achievements, as well as getting people out to the rink for their weekend series.

“It’s great to have the pancake breakfast and the toy toss again and we’re really looking forward to having them both,” she said. “Everything is happening on the same weekend but that’s not a bad thing and we’ll definitely make it work.”

And as far as the reception the team always gets for doing these sorts of events, Luck said the local charities are always grateful to the community and their donations.

“They are very appreciative because a lot of kids don’t get many toys, so it’s whatever people want to bring. We get some awesome people that bring wonderful toys, which a lot of kids wouldn’t get stuff like that. It’s just great.”
