Melfort Minor Softball registration deadline set for Feb. 14

Feb 12, 2022 | 9:53 AM

The Melfort Minor Softball Association (MMSA) is gearing up for their Spirits Summer Softball program as registration is now open.

U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19 Girls, both A and B levels, are all open for registration until this coming Monday, Feb. 14. After that, registration will be closed and tryouts will begin starting in March.

Kimberly Burgis, Age Group Coordinator for the MMSA told northeastnow they are hopeful that lots of kids to get registered and to do so quickly as the deadline fast approaches.

“We’re looking for registration for all athletes who would like to participate in our Summer Softball program,” she said. “Grab your friends and chat, as we would love to offer all the girls in the northeast a chance to play softball.”

Burgis also mentioned all the things that will be offered throughout the year to members of the program.

“For all the age groups and teams, there will be practices, leagues available, tournament play and there could be a Western Championship for the B levels and the A levels will work towards qualifying for a national tournament.”

However many tournaments each team enters will be decided by the parents, coaches and athletes of each individual level.

And Burgis said this is just the beginning of the year, however, an important step in the right direction to build off the success of previous years.

“It’s very exciting. We’ve had this very thoughtful program for five seasons now and it’s been extremely successful with provincial and national appearances. We’re looking forward to some more success like this in the 2022 season.”

For the MMSA, this is the first year in their program’s history in which both A and B levels will be offered. Anyone who wants to be a part of the A levels will have to try out, except for the U11 group, with the rest of the teams being compiled of whoever registers.

Umpire clinics will also be offered in the coming months, as there is a call out for more officials to aid in the Summer Softball program. More information regarding clinics, tryouts and registration can be viewed on the MMSA website.
