RM of Tisdale & Town of Tisdale partnering for economic plan

Apr 21, 2022 | 4:00 PM

The Town of Tisdale and the Rural Municipality of Tisdale are working together to help drive the local economy.

The two announced on Wednesday they had agreed to develop a ‘District Official Community Plan’ which will reportedly impact all the lands in each of their jurisdictions.

‘’I am confident that the RM and Town of Tisdale have the infrastructure and location to make a valuable contribution towards the economy of northeast Saskatchewan as it pertains to logistics and value-added growth,” said Brendan Samida, Chairman of the Invest Tisdale Board.

The majority of the land outside of the town is prime-producing agricultural land. The plan is to create policies to protect this land and the natural systems.

Inside the town, the plan is to make a number of zoning changes in an attempt to attract a younger workforce and entrepreneurs alongside their families. New residential development in the town will also continue to move north and heavy truck traffic will be redirected around the town away from residential and downtown.

“We can not predict the future, we can only rely on assumptions, trends, and evidence to what changes need to be made together in a changing competitive global economy,” added Samida.

An open house has been scheduled for Thursday, April 21 at the Tisdale Civic Centre from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Residents and businesses can get more information while providing their own input.
