Wright’s Greenhouse: A northeast tradition

May 6, 2022 | 11:51 AM

You know its springtime in Northeast Saskatchewan when Wright’s Greenhouse opens its doors.

There are few joys to gardeners, landscapers and those who just want some pretty plants for the patio – as that first entry into the greenhouse after a long, cold winter – than stepping into Wright’s Greenhouse to be met with the smell of fresh earth and the site of an explosion of blooms and greenery.

Wright’s Greenhouse in Beatty, Saskatchewan has been a staple of north-eastern life for 44 years. It is always the place to go to find the latest trends in gardens, flowerbeds and, more recently, decorative indoor planting.

With a wonderful selection of flowers and plants, Wright’s Greenhouse has something for everyone.

Wright’s Greenhouse is the place to go for all your garden and special events dreams. Whether you are looking for the special tomatoes, onions, peppers, lettuces and other vegetables to feed you and your family; are looking for a few flowers to decorate your yard or are looking for a spectacular flower solution for big events like weddings, anniversaries, graduations – Angie Bragg Wright has the solution for you.

“We do custom containers and will deliver to our area and into Lake Country. Some people have their own planters but we provide planters too. Basically, the customer tells us what they want and we go from there. We can manage any budget anyone has,” she said.

Wright’s Greenhouse also houses rental pots for Weddings but these are booked very, very quickly so she advises calling right away to book.

“We are also seeing more people wanting indoor plants, including succulents…which has been a favorite for a couple of years…so we have more of those this year as well,” Wright said.

Whether you need flowers for full sun, shade, climbing or crawling, the greenhouse is in full bloom with all sorts of options including perennials, fruit trees, roses and grasses.

The passion for plants at Wright’s Greenhouse is part of the family’s history. The business in Beatty started when Angie’s parents, Tom and Wendy Wright, returned to Saskatchewan after a downturn in the Alberta economy. With baby Angie in tow, the couple, with help from Tom’s parents, developed Wright’s Greenhouse from the ground up and eventually, the baby rocking in the bassinet in the greenhouse became the young woman who now operates the business. Angie has a Horticulture Degree and is constantly updating her education to keep in line with the latest trends that keep returning customers happy and new gardeners inspired.

But Wright’s Greenhouse is more than the family that runs it. It is a part of the larger community. It has become a time-honoured tradition for many families to visit the greenhouse as soon as it opens, and locals still see the red truck with the Wright’s Greenhouse sign travelling around the area delivering plans to communities.

With an incredible selection, an eye on gardening trends and generations of experience and knowledge, Wright’s Greenhouse is the obvious choice for any gardener this spring – located in Beatty, Saskatchewan.
