Melfort sees record high temperature, another heat wave expected soon

Jun 20, 2022 | 12:40 PM

If you thought it was unusually hot in Melfort this past weekend, you’d be right.

The temperature in the community on Saturday hit a high of 31.7 C, a new daily record that beat the 31.5 C set back in 1986. That’s according to Environment Canada which has records as far back as 1910.

Meteorologist Terri Lang told northeastNOW the sudden rise was probably quite surprising for some.

“I think it was more of a shock to folks that, A: couldn’t believe the temperature could turn around that fast and, B: they haven’t climatized to the heat yet.”

The temperature did drop on Sunday, but don’t expect that to last too long.

Lang said another heat wave is expected later this week.

“Thursday will probably be another warmer day as we get another one of these quick ridges of high pressure.”

In the meantime, Melfort can expect some rain and possible thunderstorms. Rain is being forecasted for the next three days and again over the weekend.
