Local product set to line-up against ‘hometown’ team in national semi-final
When the University of Saskatchewan Huskies football team storm onto the field this Saturday for the Uteck Bowl at St. FX Stadium in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, they will be facing someone who knows all too well what it takes to win football with a Saskatchewan-based team.
Number 24 for the X-Men is Melfort born and raised, defensive back, Brandyn Martin.
“The kind of brand of football that everybody in Saskatchewan is known for is hard nose,” he said. “They’re gonna play with everything they got every single time they step on that field, and that’s what I tried to bring to my own team and that’s what we are, as a team. We try to put our best out there every time we get the opportunity and just not let anything get past us.”
Martin graduated from Melfort and Unit Comprehensive Collegiate (MUCC) in 2016 and was part of the school’s football program’s 2012 and 2014 championship-winning teams.
