Tisdale Ramblers hosting appreciation night for younger generation

Nov 25, 2022 | 5:09 PM

The Tisdale Ramblers senior hockey team is set to play host to the visiting Porcupine Plain Blues, tonight (Friday, Nov. 25) at 8:30 p.m., at the RECplex in Tisdale.

The game will serve as an appreciation night for Tisdale Minor Hockey, as all minor hockey players will get to enjoy the game free of charge.

Marketing officer Dwight Marleau told northeastNOW this is something new for his squad.

“This is the first time we’ve done something to celebrate Tisdale minor hockey (in this way),” he said. “We’ve always been involved with the community and this is something more that we wanted to add… over half our team has played in the Tisdale minor hockey organization, so we just wanted to basically give back a bit.”

Also, between the second and third periods of the contest, they will have a shootout. One player from each division will be drawn and have a chance to win a pizza party for their team on behalf of Pizza Hut.

Each of the finalists will also receive a prize from their local Dairy Queen.

“Our feeder system is Tisdale minor hockey, so it’s to give back to them,” he added. “We’ve always been a corporate citizen for minor hockey, buying jerseys over time and doing some celebrations and that, but it’s time for us to get back and do that again.”

The night, however, will also serve as an interest for adults, as it provides a great chance to win some cash.

The Tisdale Hotel and Pub and Nutrien have guaranteed a $1000 minimum payout on the 50/50.

Marleau credited the local businesses for helping support a local organization and a fun night out for the town.

“Nothing happens without these businesses in town, they’re the mainstay of any kind of sports organization. If it wasn’t for them, all of these organizations don’t survive,” said Marleau. “We really appreciate what you do for the community… a lot of these businesses have been involved in something, one way or the other.”

The Ramblers have built and paid for two dressing rooms and some of the seating in the arena, in the past, and hope to do more in the future.
