Mustangs head into final handful of games in control of fate
Time is ticking away in the SJHL regular season, and yet the only thing set in stone is that the Battlefords North Stars will finish in first in the entire league.
Outside of that, every other spot in the league standings is up for grabs in one way, shape, or form. For the Melfort Mustangs, they’re in a heated battle with the La Ronge Ice Wolves for home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs, likely against one another. Melfort does hold the cards though as they hold two games in hand on the Ice Wolves and are just a single point back of their Sherwood Division rivals.
One of those games in hand will come on Wednesday as the Mustangs host the 11th place Kindersley Klippers at the Northern Lights Palace.
The Mustangs are coming off a weekend split with the Ice Wolves, including a 4-3 win on Saturday. Forward Ryan Duguay had two goals in the contest and said they’re just looking to keep the ball rolling as they head into the post-season.
