Crop Report

Around four per cent of harvest complete in Saskatchewan

Aug 10, 2023 | 12:07 PM

Harvest in Saskatchewan is already around four per cent complete.

That’s according to the province’s weekly crop report which explains this is ahead of both the five and 10-year averages.

Fall rye is currently the crop being harvested the most as 33 per cent of the province’s supply has been combined. Over 22 per cent of peas have been harvested, while 16 per cent of lentils have been combined.

Spring wheat, canaryseed, flax, canola, mustard, soybeans, and chickpeas are all under one per cent complete.

Crop damage over the seven days was mostly due to drought and heat stress though grasshoppers and flea beetles also played a part.

Meanwhile, the southwest region received around 36 mm of rain, the most in the province in the past week.

Across Saskatchewan, only 12 per cent of crops have received adequate moisture. Around 45 per cent of crops have received below-average moisture with the remaining 43 per cent receiving even less.
