Nipawin Kinsmen receives $5K donation for Pinedale Rink project

A national ag company is supporting the efforts of a local not-for-profit organization, in their efforts of bettering a northeast community.

The Nipawin Kinsmen Club recently received a $5,000 donation from ADAMA Canada for their Pinedale Outdoor Rink renovation project.

The money is part of the ‘All In On Your Stomping Grounds’ program, which is a new initiative from ADAMA to help fund community projects across the country.

“We could tell how important it was for ADAMA to support the Nipawin Kinsmen Club on this project,” said Brooke Moon, Area Business Manager for ADAMA Canada. “Initiatives like this are the reason we wanted to create All In On Your Stomping Grounds, and we’re looking forward to using the fund to continue to help improve communities all over Canada.”

The $5,000 will go towards rebuilding the rink boards at Pinedale Outdoor Rink, which is part of a larger project to improve the facility.

The Nipawin Kinsmen Club is raising the money to make upgrades so it can also continue to have the rink open free of charge and provide free equipment, such as skates, hockey sticks and pucks to children in need.

“It is very inspiring to see a group take on a project like this and to provide that opportunity to the local kids in Nipawin,” Moon added. “Some kids can’t play hockey and now there’s a free spot for them to skate… it’s an amazing project for the community of Nipawin and all the kids, really everybody loves skate.”

The outdoor rink in Nipawin is one of 19 initiatives supported by ADAMA Canada’s All In On Your Stomping Grounds program.

The program issued a cross-country call for Canadians to share community space improvement projects, agricultural education projects or community food bank projects in their hometowns that needed funding earlier this year.

“I can’t say enough about how important our little rank is, at one time last winter, there were 80 kids out on the ice and a lot of the time it’s kids that either don’t have much better to do or maybe aren’t able to be involved in organized sports,” Nipawin Kinsmen president, Spencer Maxwell told northeastNOW.

“It’s a place for them to go to hang out, stay out of trouble, and just overall have fun as kids in a safe environment. It’s a super important project and we’re so happy that companies like ADAMA realize that and are there to support us in seeing it through.”

The All In On Your Stomping Grounds program donated a total of $120,000 after receiving 60 applicants this year.

The Kinsmen are continuing to work hard between combining and harvest, and are hoping to have the rink ready in time for this winter.

“We feel grateful for ADAMA’s contribution to this project because it means our community and visitors can continue to enjoy the rink, free of charge, for generations to come,” explained Blake Tebbutt, Nipawin Kinsmen Club member.

“Rejuvenating Pinedale has been a goal of ours for years. Recreation plays a huge role in bringing our community together, so we couldn’t be more excited to bring these upgrades to Pinedale for everyone to enjoy.”
