Wheat Growers announce first mentees

Dec 1, 2023 | 1:10 PM

The Wheat Growers Association has created a new mentorship program designed to encourage young farmers to be informed and involved with agricultural policy.

Wheat Growers Treasurer Kaitlyn Kitzan said Carlie Bowditch from Saskatchewan and Barrt Maayen from Alberta were chosen from a strong field of candidates.

“I am thrilled with the quality of applicants that the Wheat Growers had for our initial year of the program,” Kitzan said. “Shortlisting and selecting two people was very difficult, and we are very pleased to have Carlie and Barrt joining us.”

Bowditch grew up on the family farm and was a member of 4-H for ten years. She moved to North Dakota to attend university on a rodeo scholarship. She returned to Saskatchewan and lives near her family farm and works as a Relationship Manager for Farm Credit Canada. She is actively involved on the farm as well as the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan, Ag in the Classroom, 4-H, and sits on the board for Sask Young Ag and the Canadian Cowboys Association.
