Mustangs going for five straight in Yorkton, after Teddy Bear Toss win against Kindersley

Dec 9, 2023 | 12:31 PM

The Melfort Mustangs pushed their win streak to four in a row Friday night, edging out the Kindersley Klippers by a score of 2-1.

The contest marked the Mustangs’ annual Teddy Bear Toss night, as Hayden Prosofsky sent the teddies flying just over two minutes in.

“It obviously feels good to get one in my last year, a 20-year-old teddy bear toss goal, it was pretty cool and pretty exciting,” he told northeastNOW.

Melfort then wouldn’t score for another 56 and a half minutes, as Zac Somers had the game-winner after the Klippers had tied it midway through the second.

“A tight game is what you expect later in the season coming into Christmas here, so we just stuck it out, stuck through it and our top guys showed up when we needed them to, and it was a big goal,” Prosofsky added.

With the victory, the Stangs also walked away with the season series over Kindersley, three games to one.

Now, the Blue and Green will have the same opportunity to do so over the Yorkton Terriers, when they hit the road for a Saturday night matchup.

“Never been to Yorkton, new to the league, so pretty excited, it’s always nice to go somewhere new, should be a tough game like it always is against those guys and we’re ready to go,” explained Prosofsky.

The two clubs have each walked away with a pair of victories against each other this year, having competed in Kamsack, Warman, and Melfort.

Now the Mustangs will head to Yorkton for the first and only time, for the fifth and final matchup of the season.

“They’re a big team, skilled too, they try hard, and they’re coming every night, so we just gotta play our game, stick to it and keep doing what we’re doing here recently,” Prosofsky said.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Westland Arena with the pre-game show beginning at 6:45 p.m. on CJVR.
