TeleMiracle 48 to be filled with northeast talent

Dec 9, 2023 | 8:00 AM

TeleMiracle 48 is still a couple of months away, however, on Wednesday the organization revealed their list of the 75 performers that will be participating in the event.

These individuals/groups range from all across the province, including the northeast, just like The Futuristic Industries All-Star Choir in Humboldt.

“It was a wonderful surprise, the folks that we support have been working hard over the past several months and we set a goal very early,” explained executive director, Ray Whitton.

“We have a music class that over the past several years has been using music as a way of expression and creativity… and we were fortunate enough to be selected, so we’re absolutely thrilled to show off our favourite song, show what we can do and raise funds for a wonderful cause.”

Futuristic Industries did a fundraiser earlier this year in their community, which prompted them to audition for the telethon.

Along with the upcoming performance in February, they are hoping to do some more fundraisers on their own to well represent Humboldt, which has now supported them for 50 years.

Their organization supports adults with intellectual disabilities, involving them within the community as much as possible.

They will bring about 25 people to TeleMiracle and will perform a song from a ‘much beloved Canadian band.’

Meanwhile, other local performers will include best friends, Paisley Rolheiser and Nikki Trecartin.

The duo, who are 10-year-old, grade-five students from Melfort, will be singing You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift.

“We’re really excited to be on TeleMiracle, we’ve wanted to do it since we were little,” they told northeastNOW. “Our friends are gonna watch TeleMiracle now because we keep telling them to, and we’re happy that we get to perform together.”

Both girls are already members of the Kinettes and will be doing fundraisers up until the Telethon on Feb. 24 and 25, such as a bake sale, and are hoping to raise at least $300.

They also recognize the importance of receiving funds for people that TeleMiracle supports, such as those in wheelchairs and motorized scooters.

The money raised throughout the year and during the TeleMiracle telethon benefits the Kinsmen Foundation.

The Kinsmen Foundation provides specialized mobility and medical equipment to people and organizations throughout the province, as well as travel assistance for residents in need of vital medical treatment outside their home community.

TeleMiracle is a 20-hour, annual telethon that is broadcast live in Saskatchewan, and its 47th rendition, raised over $5.5 million.

Other northeast performers for TeleMiracle 48 will include Ellie Murray & Shelby Murphy from Melfort, Dale Von Bieker from Nipawin, and For the Love of Country from Arborfield.

All acts were chosen through an audition process and will be featured throughout the event’s “Countdown to TeleMiracle” pre-show, the Main Show, and the Overnight segment.
