Carlton Trail College recently commemorated its 50th anniversary at a celebratory event in Humboldt.

The Dec. 7 celebration was the culmination of a year-long recognition of the impact the regional college has had in the area since its inception in 1973.

The event also saw nearly $80,000 in scholarships awarded to 43 students in Carlton Trail’s post-secondary programs that are 12 weeks or longer.

A legacy contribution of $50,000 was made by Murray and Audrey Brockman and family to create an endowment to award scholarship funds in perpetuity — a first for the college.

The Walker Wood Foundation also provided a six-year pledged contribution of $120,000 in continued support of the college’s student awards program.

“It’s been an honour over the last 50 years to deliver impactful educational and training services within our east-central region,” Carlton Trail College President and CEO Amy Yeager said in a news release.

The release said scholarships are funded through donations from individuals, businesses, agencies and organizations.

Award recipients are determined through several factors, including academic achievements, school involvement, entrance criteria, and financial need.
