The mayor of St. Brieux is weighing in on the proposed sale of Bourgault Industries.

Linamar Corporation announced this week that has reached an agreement to purchase the farm equipment manufacturer for $640,000,000.

“I really have not heard anything other than what’s been in the news,” Mayor Cindy Placsko told northeastNOW.

“It’s still very early in the process,” Placsko said. “We just learned of this with everyone else, but I don’t the town really anticipates any big impactful changes for the time being.”

Placsko said Bourgault has been an important factor in the growth and success of the community.

“Not just…Bourgault Industries, but [Bourgault] Tillage Tools and the other industries in town, Dry Air,” Bourgault explained. “A lof of our business and industries, and even the farms, we owe all of our growth and progress to those people.”

Bourgault president Gerry Bourgault will be exiting the company his family founded when the sale is completed.

“The town does wish Gerry and everyone involved with the whole process the best,” Placsko said. “We are looking forward to what the future holds.”

Bourgault employes over 900 people in Saskatchewan, and over 1,000 worldwide.

The sale is expected to be finalized early in 2024, pending regulatory approval.
