Big shoes to Fill

Long-time Melfort Museum Curator, Cultural Coordinator to retire in April

The City of Melfort will soon have some big shoes to fill as Gailmarie Anderson has announced her retirement.

The city’s cultural coordinator and curator for the Melfort and District Museum has spent 19 years in her role which will come to an end in April.

“I’ve absolutely loved being in this role, it’s been an ideal job for me and I’ve worked with some amazing people… I’m very sad to be leaving this position, but I know that I’m leaving it in good hands. I have made lifelong friends here and I appreciate the city for all of the support that they’ve given me,” she told northeastNOW.

With more than a month left in her tenure, Anderson will spend her final days tying up loose ends and doing her best to make sure a smooth transition is undertaken.

As it stands right now, the city has yet to post an official job opening, however, one is expected soon.

The next big thing for the museum in particular is their proposed land expansion, which Anderson wants to have a completed plan for before she leaves.

Another thing she wants to do is enjoy the end of her career, as it’ll be gone before she knows it.

“I’m definitely cherishing the coffee time here, morning and afternoon. We have volunteers who are working here over at the museum, and who come for coffee, and others just drop in, so I’m really going to miss that. I’ll have to be coming back for that for the coffee,” she laughed.

Those within the community can still expect to see Anderson around the community, one in which she’s had three careers in, having previously served as a teacher and bookstore owner.

Anderson explained she will still be volunteering lots, as she’s already a part of multiple local organizations and will now just have time for more.

One final thing that Anderson will also have more room for in her life is the ones who she loves the most.

“My family and friends have been so supportive, and certainly my family will appreciate that I’m going to be able to spend more time with them.”
