Three Mustangs, two Broncos take home monthly SJHL honours

Three Melfort Mustangs and two Humboldt Broncos have made the Player of the Month list in the SJHL.

The SGEU Most Valuable Player of the Month is Spencer Bell of the Humboldt Broncos.

Bell, who leads the league in goals with 40, had 23 points in a 14-game point streak from Jan. 9 to Feb. 15, and had 17 points in 9 games last month.

The 20-year-old is second in league scoring with 75 points and is third with 15 power-play goals, and four shorthanded goals.

Bell has committed to St. Lawrence University in the fall.

The Bourgault Forward of the Month is Aidyn Hutchinson of the Melfort Mustangs.

Hutchinson flexed his muscles last month, with 10 goals and 21 points in just eight games.

The 20-year-old St. Albert, Alta product is fourth in league scoring with 66 points for the Mustangs, who have won four straight games.

Teammate Chase Friedt-Mohr was named the SuperU Defenceman of the Month who had 14 points in just nine games last month for the Mustangs.

That included four multi-point games in February.

Friedt-Mohr is third in the SJHL among blueliners with 50 points, and second in power-play points among defensemen with 24.

The DirectWest Rookie of the Month is Travis Bryson of the Humboldt Broncos.

The 19-year-old left-winger had five goals and seven assists in nine games in February, including five goals and eight points in three games to close the month.

Bryson tops the SJHL rookie scoring race with 49 points, 10 more than his closest rival.

The Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Month for February was the Melfort Mustangs’ Clay Sleeva.

The Canora native had a huge month of February, with 18 points in just nine games, second only to linemate Aidyn Hutchinson.

Sleeva, who the Mustangs acquired from Yorkton, has 18 goals and 50 points in 47 games this season.

Closing out the award winners for February was Will Dyke of the Melville Millionaires, who was named the Sasktel Goalie of the Month, after winning five games in February with a 2.17 goals against average and a .926 save percentage.
