Tisdale Trojans season comes to an end after sweep

Mar 18, 2024 | 11:00 AM

The Tisdale Trojans couldn’t come back from a 2-0 series deficit this time.

The Trojans’ season came to an end Sunday night with a 6-3 loss in Saskatoon against the top-seeded Blazers.

The Saskatoon victory completed the three-game sweep.

Tisdale had the lone goal in the first period as Lucas Borne scored just 40 seconds into the contest.

Saskatoon tied the game at one on a power-play goal early in the second, but the Trojans restored their one-goal lead less than 30 seconds later after a Simon Martin goal.

The Blazers broke open the game after that, with two goals late in the second period, and two more in the third to take a 5-2 lead.

Jaxon Kehrig, who signed with the Melfort Mustangs for next season, made it 5-3 with under two minutes remaining.

The Blazers rounded out the scoring with just 17 seconds left to move onto the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL) final against the second-seeded Regina Pat Canadians, after their sweep of Swift Current.

It was a huge improvement for the Trojans in 2023-24 compared to the previous season.

Tisdale finished 23-18-3 during the regular season and upset the Warman Wildcats in the first round of the playoffs, winning three straight games after going down 2-0 in the series.

In the previous season, the Trojans finished just one spot out of the basement with a 13-28-3 record, missing the playoffs.
