One Hundred Women Who Care in Melfort to help local charity

Mar 25, 2024 | 5:00 PM

A new initiative for the Melfort area will help support a local charity.

Melfort is now home to a “One Hundred Women Who Care” chapter, where women in the area help support a local non-profit organization.

“One hundred women get together four times a year and they each chip in $100, so there’s $10,000 in the pot,” explained organizer Richelle Rogers. “They have three charitable organizations present to them that night and then they vote by secret ballot of who of those three they feel should receive the funds.”

Rogers said at last word they were very close to having 100 women sign up for the initiative. Nominations for charities to be considered are made by the women themselves.

The first meeting is Tuesday, March 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Melfort Golf and Country Club, with the winner decided at that time.

“When we can get women together for an hour and raise $10,000, I think that (winning) organization will be thrilled and it will be put to really good use,” Rogers said.

Each of the charitable organizations must be from the Melfort area, or a provincial or national charity must have a branch or chapter in Melfort.

Rogers said any charitable organization looking to be nominated can contact any of the One Hundred Women Who Care. She added even though only one charity can get the money, it’s excellent exposure for each of the three nominated charities.
