Mustangs aim for 3-0 stranglehold in Game 3

Mar 26, 2024 | 3:12 PM

The Melfort Mustangs will have the opportunity on Tuesday night to take a 3-0 stranglehold in their first-round playoff series.

Melfort won games one and two by a combined 12-5 score, at home, against the Estevan Bruins, this past weekend, pushing all the pressure onto the Bruins.

Now, the series shifts to Estevan Tuesday and Wednesday, for games three and four.

“It’s awesome, two good games for the boys, especially leading two to nothing, now heading to Estevan,” explained assistant coach Tye Scherger.

“We’re gonna reset and get ready to play a hard game, they’re gonna have a good fan base out there, and we’re gonna have to weather the storm early and go to work.”

The Mustangs have only trailed for two minutes and 18 seconds, while they’ve held the lead for 91 minutes and 46 seconds.

With a full two days off between games, the Stangs are hopeful they can carry that sort of momentum and confidence over and down south, now two wins away from a sweep and round two.

“Going into it, you got to have that confidence, you got to have that energy and you got to have that jam,” Scherger added.

“Going on the road in playoffs, they’re gonna have a good atmosphere, so like I said, we have to weather the storm, we’re gonna have to be heavy right out the gates and we gotta be ready to go.”

Another boost for the Blue and Green is that arguably their toughest D-man won’t be missing out on Game 3.

According to the SJHL website, Nolan Roberts was originally suspended for Tuesday’s contest, due to the four fights that broke out late in Saturday’s match.

That has since been lifted from the site, which is showing all indications that Roberts will be suiting up.

The matchup will once again be on CJVR, with game time scheduled for 7 p.m.
