Nipawin fire crews respond to brushfire west of Codette

Apr 26, 2024 | 12:42 PM

Fire crews from Nipawin had to respond to a controlled burn that soon got out of hand.

The brushfire call came around noon Thursday in the RM of Nipawin, west of Codette, along the lake.

Nipawin Fire’s Facebook page said the burn got away and the landowner quickly called 9-1-1 before the fire spread into Crown land.

The landowner used her backhoe to create a fire break that helped prevent the fire from becoming much larger.

The post said despite the snow earlier this month, conditions remain extremely dry, and all control burns must be called into the Control Burn line at 1-866-404- 4911. Permits from the RM Office are also required from April 1 until October 31.

Meanwhile, the Nipawin Fire Department recently donated their used Amkus hydraulic rescue tools to Zenon Park’s fire department.

Fire Chief Paul Cockell handed the equipment over to Zenon Park Chief Tyler Moyen this week.
