Everyone safe after carbon monoxide call in Nipawin

Apr 30, 2024 | 3:00 PM

Fire crews in Nipawin responded to a carbon monoxide call late Monday night

Carbon monoxide alarms were sounding at the home shortly before 11:30 p.m., and the family had evacuated the home and were waiting in the driveway when fire crews arrived.

Trace amounts of carbon monoxide were detected in the attached garage, and levels spiked upon entry to the house.

Crews opened windows and doors to ventilate the home, and the residents spent the night at a family member’s home.

SaskEnergy discovered the hot water heater was the cause of the carbon monoxide, and it was shut down until a plumber could finish the repair.

The scene was cleared by 1 a.m., and the fire department credited the mother of the family for getting everyone out of the house and calling 9-1-1.
