Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce hosting Show and Shine

Jun 6, 2024 | 2:00 PM

A major event leading into summer makes its return to Melfort next weekend.

The Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce will host its 34th Annual Show and Shine on Main St. June 14 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Chamber Executive Director Cal Gratton told northeastNOW the event is a big draw, and helps the local economy. He recommends anyone in the car show or those here to look at some spectacular vehicles spend a few extra hours in the city before or after the show.

“Do some shopping, maybe shop at one of your favourite clothing stores or perhaps just grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants in town,” said Gratton. “The city of Melfort has a lot to offer, and if you’re new to the area, just take some time to drive around and take a look at what we have.”

Melfort City Manager Adam Homes agreed, saying the Show and Shine is a significant event for the City of Melfort.

“It brings car enthusiasts from the surrounding area and attracts new visitors to our city. The event showcases our community spirit and hospitality, while also providing a boost to our local economy. We are proud and thankful of the work that the Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce does to pull off this event and look forward to its continued success.”

Gratton said they’re still looking for volunteers for the barbecue and to help with barricades and general clean-up.

There is a lot of interest from car enthusiasts about this year’s show, according to Gratton, though the number of registrations won’t be known until after the event begins. Last year, 130 vehicles were registered, up almost 30 from the previous car show.

The Show and Shine is a major draw for people from all corners of the province and beyond, Gratton said.

“We’ve had car owners from B.C., Alberta, and Manitoba showing up last year as well.”

Lillidae Home and Design will set up a ‘Grease’-themed photo booth at this year’s show, and several non-profit organizations will be on hand to sell raffle tickets. North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) will sell 50-50s.

Vehicle registration will start at 3 p.m., and it costs $20 to register your vehicle. Diamond Dodge will hold a kickoff barbecue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day.
