Tobin Lake gets new boat launch

Jul 4, 2024 | 12:02 PM

The Resort Village of Tobin Lake now has another place where people can launch their boats.

The village celebrated their 50th anniversary last year and only had just a single boat launch until now.

“It’s been a big challenge for the village to accommodate the tourism and the traffic that visits the village and the people who live here. This boat launch basically has unlimited parking and we built a rock breakwater structure around it, so it’s very safe,” explained Tobin Lake Leisure co-owner, Amy Shipley.

“The water is like a sheet of glass for loading and unloading, so that’s very important because our waters can get really rough within just a few minutes when the wind comes in. It’s really beneficial to the northeast region and it’s really something that’s been needed for a long time.”

Shipley and her husband began the boat launch project a few years ago and were able to celebrate its completion with a grand opening and ribbon cutting on Sunday afternoon.

Roughly 350 people showed up for free hot dogs and burgers, geodesic dome tours, a performance from Ches Anthony, and to check out some new boats.

The boat launch is on Highway 255, just south of the resort village, within the rural municipality. It is named Sunset Ridge Boat Launch and is part of the Tobin Lake Leisure Campground.

The area has roughly 35 acres to accommodate ample parking and is surrounded by bathrooms, picnic areas, a new filleting shack, and 142 campsites.

“We were overwhelmed with the turnout,” Shipley added. “The area is very popular for fishing and our community is growing all the time. We have more people that have property here, live here full time or are just here seasonally, so there’s a lot of demand for the boat launch and having this additional one is a real benefit.”

The boat launch is privately owned, however, will be available to the public.

A daily launching fee will be set at $25, a week pass is $100, or a full season is $250. As for just a regular ‘park pass’, those will come in at $10 a day, $60 a week, or $100 for the season.
