Crozon, Team Canada to play for medal at Paris Olympics

Aug 4, 2024 | 6:56 PM

At worst, the Canadian Women’s 3×3 Basketball Team will be playing for a bronze medal.

Humboldt native, Paige Crozon, along with her three teammates, won their quarterfinal matchup against Australia 21-10 on Saturday afternoon.

That means they’re now in the semis and a win would guarantee them a silver medal or a loss would put them in the bronze medal match.

Canada went 4 and 3 in pool play, finishing with a victory over Azerbaijan (21-19) earlier on Saturday.

Their 4 and 3 record gave them the fourth spot in the standings. The USA got third in the standings while China grabbed the final playoff spot at six.

The States beat China 21-13 in their match, which means USA as the three-seed will match up with Spain (second in the standings at 4 and 3), while Canada will have to take down top-dog Germany who went 6 and 1 in the round-robin.

The Canadians’ contest against the Germans will go at 10:30 a.m. Saskatchewan Time, with the Bronze Medal game slated for 1 p.m. and the Gold Medal game scheduled for 2 p.m.

Crozon had six points in the pool play finale against Azerbaijan and another five points against Australia in the quarters.

Paris is the first Olympic Games that Team Canada has competed in the 3×3 Women’s Basketball event, as they’re only one win away from a medal and two wins from a gold.
