Aug 13, 2024 | 11:31 AM

Marley Seymour, who has spent three years with the City of Melfort as their director of corporate services and city clerk, will work her final day on Friday.

Seymour, who lived in Manitoba prior to her stay in Melfort, will be returning home with her family.

She has accepted the chief administrative officer position with the Town of Lac du Bonnet.

“My family and I have really enjoyed our time in Melfort, however, we feel that being close to family and friends is the best thing for us and we are very excited to be going back home,” Seymour told northeastNOW.

“Leaving the City of Melfort is certainly bittersweet for me. I’ve had the privilege of working with an incredible team and the relationships I’ve built with colleagues, city council members, and community partners have been incredible. During my tenure, I have grown significantly in my career, gaining valuable experience that will undoubtedly assist me in preparing for the next chapter in my professional journey.”

As the director of corporate services, Seymour’s main responsibilities were providing support and advice to the municipal council while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards, records management and information access for the city.

She was also responsible for managing information technology services, human resources, and payroll, as well as the management of the Melfort Fire Department and Emergency Management (EMO) for the city.

During her time in Melfort, Seymour played an integral part in building the current City of Melfort dynamic leadership team that is committed to excellence and innovation, was a main component in the negotiation process to secure a fair and equitable agreement with the union, ensuring a balanced approach that respected the needs of both employees and the city, and led the implementation of several enterprise software systems, significantly improving operational efficiency and service delivery.

She also played a key role in establishing and advising on numerous policy matters, ensuring the city’s governance framework is robust, transparent, and aligned with best practices.

“I am sad to be leaving the people, the relationships I’ve built with some of the incredible people in this community have been a highlight of my time here,” added Seymour.

Seymour also served on the board of directors for the Melfort Mustangs.

“I’m especially going to miss my involvement with the Mustangs,” she concluded. “Serving on the board has been a rewarding experience, allowing me to support the team and its players in their pursuit of excellence both on and off the ice.”

“Also as a billet family, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming players into our home, creating bonds that will last a lifetime. As a true Mustang fan, I’ve enjoyed cheering for the team and witnessing their success. I wish the Mustangs all the best in the upcoming season and am confident they will continue to make Melfort proud.”

The city announced current director of public works, Lydia Steffen will be stepping into Seymour’s role, following her departure. Steffen’s former position will then be posted in hopes of being filled by someone else.
