Melfort fall cleanup week

Melfort fall cleanup week starts Monday

Oct 16, 2024 | 10:38 AM

Residents of Melfort have an opportunity to clean up their yards ahead of the inevitable winter weather.

The city is holding its fall cleanup week from Oct. 21 to 26.

“It’s a big week always where we’re looking at cleaning up the city and getting ready for winter,” said Director of Public Works Kalyna Cipywnyk.

Sanitary landfill fees will be waived for Melfort residents during that time for all yard refuse and household garbage.

Landfill hours are Monday to Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Proof of a Melfort address is required at the time of disposal, through a driver’s license or utility bill.

Greenland Waste, the city’s garbage contractor, will also collect yard waste.

“(They will pick up) tree limbs, grass clippings, leaves, and garden refuse on your regular garbage day if you put it out by your bins,” explained Cipywnyk.

Items must be placed in a clear bag and branches must be four feet long or less.
