Hawks make move in net, host Melville Tuesday

The Nipawin Hawks have brought in a new junior ‘A’ experienced goaltender and moved Tyson Endall to 100 Mile House in the Kootenay Interior Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) for a player development fee.

The team acquired Nathan Claydon from the Kindersley Klippers who had a logjam in the crease with the return of veteran Cody Jaman allowing Claydon to be available. General Manager Tad Kozun said after pulling his starter in each of the last three games the club needed to make a move.

“Just looking to shake things up a little bit and get a spark in the group,” he said. “It’s a move we figured we needed to make and we’re looking forward to what Nathan can do here.”

Claydon, 18, started three games for Kindersley this season winning two of them while posting a goals-against-average of 3.03 and a save-percentage of .913. Endall is a second year Hawk and a fan favourite, Kozun said he appreciates everything the 19-yeart-old did on the ice and the town in his time with the club.

“I can’t say enough good things about Tyson, he was a treat to be around everyday. He loved being a Hawk and was great in the community, and a great ambassador for the organization, but it comes down to getting wins and we aren’t doing that, so we needed to make a change,” Kozun said.

Claydon will get the start Tuesday when Nipawin hosts the Melville Millionaires for the first time this season. Coming off a 7-3 loss against Notre Dame, Kozun said finding a solid 60 minutes from his group is key heading into the matchup.

“We need to put a complete game together and find that consistency, that’s been the biggest thing for us. We have played some really good hockey for periods, but we seem to find one period where we fall back and can’t recover. We need to find a way to put a full 60 together and compete every single shift,” he concluded.

Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Centennial Arena.
