Fall Clean-up Week in Melfort starts next Monday

Oct 13, 2026 | 2:04 PM

Residents of Melfort will have a chance to clean up their yards before the snow comes.

Fall Clean-up Week is being held in Melfort from Oct 19-24.

Director of Public Works Kalyna Cipywnyk said that garbage contractor Greenland Waste will once again pick up leaf and yard waste during your regular garbage day.

“Residents can put tree clippings, grass clippings, leaves and garden refuse in a clear plastic bag, and put that beside their brown [garbage] bin on the curb,” Cipywnyk explained.

Melfort residents will also have residential landfill tipping fees waived during that time for all refuse and typical household garbage. Cipywnyk said proof of having a Melfort address will be needed to verify residences.

Cipywnyk said people will need to keep an eye out for changes at the landfill, after the recent decommissioning of the previous cell and the construction of a newly engineered landfill disposal area. Landfill customers will be directed to the new cell to dump their residential waste.

There are other changes at the site that landfill users will need to note.

“We have new drop off areas for clean wood, metal recycling, tires, and asphalt and concrete along the south road of the landfill.”

Customers can talk to the landfill attendant if they have any questions as to the proper place to deposit their waste. Cipywnyk said there is also new signage that will help newcomers to the new landfill site.

Cipywnyk said the week allows residents to prepare their yards ahead of a turn in the weather.

“We encourage everyone to keep their yards clean and tidy, especially over the winter months, so you don’t have too many surprises in the spring when the snow melts.”

If you miss Fall Clean-up Week, or if you have more clean-up afterward, you can access the city’s yard waste disposal site (formerly known as the compost site). Cipywnyk said that should remain open until the snow comes.
