Mustangs look to end first losing streak of the season in Yorkton

Feb 4, 2025 | 2:19 PM

The Melfort Mustangs travel to Yorkton tonight to begin a four games in five-day stretch.

Melfort is currently on their first and only losing streak of the season, having dropped their last two games to division rivals.

The Mustangs fell 4-1 to the Nipawin Hawks on Jan. 25, before dropping a 4-0 decision to the Flin Flon Bombers this past Saturday.

Both of the losses came on the road, of which six of their seven this season have.

Now, away from the Northern Lights Palace again on Tuesday, the Stangs will try and right the ship as they matchup with the Terriers.

This evening’s contest is a make-up one from earlier in the year, due to poor weather and road conditions.

That means that despite just a month and a half left in the season, there are still two meetings remaining between these two clubs.

The Blue and Green have won both prior matchups, doing so by a combined score of 12-4.

First, the Mustangs scored the first four goals of the game at home, back on Jan.11, en route to a 5-1 win.

Then, Melfort scored the last six goals of the match on the road, back on Jan.17, en route to a 7-3 comeback victory.

The hope is that similar magic awaits for the Stangs, as they look to get back in the win column while simultaneously fending off the streaking Bombers in the standings.

The Blue and Green now have just a two-lead atop the SJHL, albeit with three games in hand of Flin Flon.

Puck drop between the Mustangs and the Terriers goes later today at 7 p.m. in Yorkton with the pregame show beginning at 6:45 p.m. on 105CJVR.

Melfort has the chance to secure the season series with just a single point in the third of four scheduled contests this campaign.

The final match between the two will occur March 5 at the Palace.
