The Hawks are red hot and returned home from their southern road trip with three wins for the first time since 2017.

Nipawin completed their road trip in Wilcox Sunday against the Hounds coming back to win 5-3 in the final game against Notre Dame, combing the victory with Friday’s win in Weyburn and Saturday’s rout of Estevan, the Hawks won all three games down south for the first time since Jan. 24 to 26, 2017. Forward Jack Janzen scored in the third period, and assisted on the Hawks first goal by Carter Anderson to spur on the comeback after the Hawks were down 2-0 and 3-1 in the third period.

“That was awesome, this group is amazing, it’s so much fun winning with the boys, so hopefully we can keep dong that,” Janzen said after the game.

After Anderson cut the lead to 2-1, the Hounds added another to make it 3-1, Janzen cut the lead to one, Mason Karakochuk scored his 18th goal a minute later tying the game, Finley Radloff scored his 16th of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season, which was the game winning goal, and Eric Hoiness capped the scoring with an empty net tally.

The Hawks are now on a four game winning streak, their longest since the 2022-23 SJHL season. The stretch started with a comeback win over Notre Dame at home on Feb. 16, Nipawin also scored a handful of goals in the third period at home as well. Janzen said the team has done different things to put the run together.

“Something we have developed is that we’re finding different ways to win, and I think that’s huge for us,” he added. “It was awesome, to be honest I never really had a doubt, I have so much belief in these guys. We found a way to get it done and it was awesome.”

The rookie forward from Martensville has four goals and 15 assists in his rookie campaign including a goal and five assists during the winning streak. Janzen said it’s nice to contribute offensively to the wins as well.

“To get the goal there in the third felt really good, I have been snake bitten. I have been missing the net a lot, so it was good to get a greasy one, it was awesome,” he concluded.

Nipawin will put their winning streak on the line on Wednesday when La Ronge visits the Centennial Arena Wednesday.
