Hawks look to continue spoiler role Tuesday
The Nipawin Hawks have a chance to snap Melville’s 11-game winning streak and continue their role as spoiler as the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) schedule winds down.
The Hawks have just four games left including a road matchup against the Millionaires who haven’t lost since Jan. 21 when they played the Flin Flon Bombers. Nipawin is also seeking their first win against the Millionaires this year, the games have been close, but the Hawks have only mustered three goals in a trio of games. Head Coach Tad Kozun said his group has nothing to lose.
“It’s the same message here lately, go in and play spoiler,” Kozun said. “This is a team that’s playing quite well right now, but we have a chance to go in there and upset them. We are obviously looking up at everyone right now, tonight is a chance for us to play spoiler a little bit.”
Nipawin is not going to the playoffs but have been playing spirited hockey over the last several weeks. The team is 6-3-0-1 in their last ten and have won six of their last eight games including a 5-2 win over Kindersley on Friday at the Centennial Arena. Nipawin was able to snap the Bombers 26-game point streak earlier in February, the club is hoping for more of the same at CN Community Centre while avoiding the season sweep after taking the series last season.
