Tisdale’s 100 Women Who Care chapter awards $10,000

The 100 Women Who Care chapter in Tisdale has awarded their first ten thousand dollars.

At their inaugural meeting this week, the organization donated the money to the Salvation Army Food Bank.

Tisdale chapter spokesperson Dorthy Folden told northeastNOW that about 70 women came to the meeting to hear from the three different non-profit organizations. Chapter members can vote prior to the meeting and donate the money afterward or come to the meetings.

“It’s nice because some people can’t commit to that time,” explained Folden.

She said people asked great questions of the organizations and everyone was tuned in to their messages.

Folden said she heard from several people that the Salvation Army’s presentation was impactful and eye-opening. The presentation featured statistics about the increase in food bank use, primarily since the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I think that people don’t really realize how much people are struggling in that area,” said Folden.

“The Salvation Army was just over the moon, thrilled that they walked away with $10,000 in one evening from a 10-minute presentation, which is absolutely phenomenal to know that we had that much of an impact on a charity in the community,” Folden added.

Also making presentations at the meeting were KidSport and the Tisdale and District Museum. Folden said all the presentations were fantastic and while they didn’t receive the money, their message was certainly well-received.

“The [representative] from KidSport had said ‘you know what, I didn’t win, but this was a really amazing opportunity even to get in front of 100 wonen in a room, because at least one woman from here somehow will help us in some way,” Folden said. In fact, one person in attendance approached KidSport and told them they would be interested in setting up a golf tournament to benefit KidSport.

The 100 Women Who Care Tisdale now has a full ‘roster’; however, they are accepting names for a waitlist. The organization has 100 women who donate $100 per quarter, and the $10,000 is handed out to a worthy non-profit during their quarterly meetings.
