Public invited to NESPCA AGM

The North East SPCA (NESPCA) is holding their annual general meeting (AGM) on April 15 at the Harry and Eve Vickar Shelter.

Spokesperson Bill Wood told northeastNOW they are looking for public input at the event. The AGM will also feature the election of board members, and the public is invited to attend.

“We’re going to have our approval of our financial statement of last year, which is very, very important,” Wood said.

The organization has held a Save Our Shelter (SOS) fundraising campaign, and Wood said the animal shelter remains open and in operation.

Wood said they have several promotions underway as fundraising ramps up.

“Financially, it’s always a struggle,” Wood said, but quickly added the NESPCA is entering their busy fundraising season with barbecues running through the spring, summer, and fall. Their first fundraising barbecue will take place at Pet Valu Apr. 30.

“Usually, in the summertime financially we do pretty well,” explained Wood. “The toughest months for any shelter in the province of Saskatchewan [are] always December, January, and February. If you can get through those three months, you’re going to be fine.”

The recent Caged for Critters SPCA fundraiser was a huge success, raising $12,000 for the organization. Local celebrities and dignitaries were ‘caged’ at the SPCA and could only be released once they raised funds for the SPCA.

“We want to thank everyone who participated, it was a lot of fun,” said Wood.

The North East SPCA currently has a “dog sale” underway. Anyone adopting a dog from the shelter will get a scratch ticket to receive anywhere from 10 to 20 per cent off the cost of adoption. You can visit their website for more information on the animals available, and to keep up to date on the latest promotions.

The NESPCA AGM Apr. 15 will start at 7 pm.
