The City of Melfort has filled an important position in city hall.

Courtney Beaulieu is the new finance manager for the city and took the position April 1.

Director of Corporate Services Lydia Steffen told northeastNOW the city is excited to have Beaulieu on board.

“What it means for the city is that we have someone in a position. We’ve kind of been short-staffed for a month or two,” Steffen said. “It brings some stability going into our auditing season.”

Steffen said the finance manager oversees the financial operations and ensures that the city’s funds are managed responsibly.

“The role of a city treasurer includes several key responsibilities, such as financial reporting, budgeting, planning, compliance, and auditing,” explained Steffen. “In essence, the treasurer ensures the city can meet its financial obligations, plans for the future, and operates smoothly.”

According to Steffen, it was clear that Beaulieu’s skills were aligned with the requirements of the position.

“Her achievements and professional experience demonstrated a clear progression in both responsibilities and leadership within financial management,” said Steffen. “Courtney’s educational background, combined with her extensive work experience, distinguished her as an exceptional candidate.”

Beaulieu is originally from Saskatoon and has previously worked as the administrator for the RM of Invergordon. She moved to the Kinistino about eight years ago to her husband’s family farm.

The formal announcement of Beaulieu’s hiring was made at Monday night’s council meeting.
