Ejov named Laval Rocket goaltending coach

A name familiar to Melfort Mustangs fans is moving up in the coaching circles. 

Former star netminder Ilya Ejov has been named the new goaltending coach for the Laval Rocket, the Montreal Canadiens American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. 

Ejov spent one year with the Mustangs but was fantastic, finishing with a 2.01 goals-against-average and a .925 save percentage in 40 games during the 2007-08 season, where he went 28-8-2. 

He also spent a decade carving out an impressive career in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), playing from 2011 to 2024. 

Prior to joining the Rocket, Ejov was the goaltending coach at Concordia University.
