Series Deficit

Mustangs goalied again, down 2-0 to North Stars

Mar 22, 2026 | 5:48 PM

The Melfort Mustangs are not where they want to be, as they now trail their first-round series against the Battlefords North Stars two games to none.

Despite outplaying their opponent for the majority of the two games, the Mustangs ultimately ran into hot goaltending, as they only scored a combined four goals on 85 total shots.

Following a 4-2 loss on Friday (virtually a 3-2 loss with an empty netter), Melfort fell 3-2 on Saturday.

The power play has been an issue as the Stangs are just 1-12 in the series (but virtually 0-12 as they gave up a shorthanded goal).

In total, the Blue and Green have outshot the Stars by 31, but have run into Kaeden Serpa, who has 81 saves in two games.

Melfort has never led in the series and has only had the game tied once beyond a 0-0 start.

They will have to figure out how to dig themselves out of a 2-0 hole, as the series will now shift to the Northern Lights Palace, the home of the Mustangs, for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
