Teen arrested after Sandy Bay house fire

Apr 24, 2026 | 1:58 PM

A teen has been charged after a house fire at Sandy Bay, about 450 km northeast of Melfort.

Sandy Bay RCMP received a report of the fire on April 5, and the unoccupied house was heavily damaged.

No one was injured.

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency assisted in the investigation, and a male teenager was arrested the following week.

The teen has been charged with one count of arson and is scheduled to appear in court in Sandy Bay May 7.

His name and age cannot be revealed as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

RCMP continue to investigate this incident and other structure fires in Sandy Bay since October of last year.

It’s believed the fires at four houses and an outbuilding were deliberately set.

“The investigations include determining whether there is any potential link between the incidents,” the RCMP news release stated. “Saskatchewan RCMP’s General Investigation Section is supporting Sandy Bay RCMP with these investigations.”

Residents had previously expressed their concerns about the fires and the lack of a fire truck in the community.

Anyone with information on any of these fires is asked to call 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
